Bridge

Versatile perforation function for creating a small elevation

Bridges

Bridges offer a wide range of applications without complicated manufacture: in the first step, the elongated basic contour of the bridge is separated from the base sheet, while in the second step – without having to change the tool – the individual form is given to the bridge by means of cold forming processes. Furthermore, it can be designed both upwards and downwards.

The bridge can be used, for example, as a ventilation slot, spacer or card support. Another useful application is the joint fastened on the front side of a sheet by means of a screw. The use of the bridge in this case saves an additional operation in another machine.

Bridges can also be suitable for running cables. With the help of ties or similar, the cable run can be clearly designed in an assembly. This connection is especially suitable in the dynamic load area, as here the cables are fixed in the simplest way.

Notes on the design of angular bridges

  1. The thickness of the plate must be designed within the following range: 0.8mm ≤ s ≤ 2.5mm
  2. The width of bridge B is usually in the range: 2mm ≤ B ≤ 40mm, but can also be designed to be larger or even smaller with the following maximums and minimums: 0.8mm ≤ B ≤ 60mm
  3. The length of the bridge L must be dimensioned in the range 2mm ≤ L ≤ 80mm.
  4. The angle α can be between 12° and 90°.
  5. The choice of height H is limited to the following range: 0.2mm ≤ H ≤ 45mm.
  6. The dimensioning of the radii R1 and R2 should be left to the manufacturer of the tool, if possible.

Care should be taken to not use up the dimensional limits.

NOTE
Bridges have very variable forms: from the angular to the round, as well as the roof shaped contour. There is a wide range that can also adopt the form of a double bridge. The extensive range of applications also allows nuts to be secured against twisting without a welded joint. In addition to the standard forms, there are special forms that can be used such as threads, hinges or locks
