High precision punching

TRUMPF offers a solution for high precision punching with special tools for fits. Depending on the dimensional range, the tolerance class varies and is approximately H9/H10, therefore the tolerance is also influenced by the thickness of the sheet and the quality of the material.

The fits are more precise as the cut percentage is increased in comparison with normal punching.

1 = Normal punching

2 = Precision punching

M = Matrix

P = Punch

Q = Stroke during pre-punching

A = Cutting portion

B = Fracture part

Notes on manufacturing

  1. Pre-punching with a smaller standard punch due to cut clearance.

Pre-punching diameter D = punch dimension P – cut clearance (2 x cut clearance C)

Cut distance = 0.1 x sheet thickness S

  1. Re-perforate with the special punch for fits. For this, a standard die can be used with a cut clearance of approximately 0.1 – 0.2 mm (alternatively 10% * sheet thickness S).
NOTE
The punch fits must always be made in two steps. This requires a special punch for the fits with a special design.
